Vladan Joler, the Director of Share Foundation, will join us from Serbia to deliver his talk!

Vladan is an academic, researcher, and artist whose work blends data investigations, counter-cartography, investigative journalism, writing, data visualization, critical design, and numerous other disciplines.
He explores and visualizes different technical and social aspects of algorithmic transparency, digital labor exploitation, invisible infrastructures, and many other contemporary phenomena in the intersection between technology and society.
In 2018, in cooperation with Kate Crawford, he published Anatomy of an AI System, a large-scale map and long-form essay investigating the human labor, data, and planetary resources required to build and operate an Amazon Echo device. A previous study of his, entitled Facebook Algorithmic Factory, included deep forensic investigations and visual mapping of the algorithmic processes and forms of exploitation behind the largest social network. Other studies that he authored, published in recent years by the independent research collective SHARE Lab, included research on information warfare, metadata analysis, browsing history exploitation, surveillance, and Internet architecture.
He has curated and organized numerous events and gatherings of Internet activists, artists, and investigators, including SHARE events in Belgrade and Beirut. His artistic pre-history is rooted in media activism and game hacking.
Aside from his permanent professorship position, i.e. tenure, at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, where he teaches at the New Media Department, he has given lectures at numerous educational and art institutions, including the University of Oxford, Museo Reina Sofía, CCCB, the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen, HfG-Karlsruhe, MG+MSUM, Aarhus University, Somerset House, Hangar Barcelona, Mucem Marseille and numerous events such as Re: Publica, Transmediale, Ars Electronica, The Influencers, CCC, etc.

In 2019, as an undergraduate student of the School of Computing in Belgrade, Miodrag Vladić joined the NLP Research Group, later co-founded the startup YottaAnswers, with research partners who have decades of experience in academia and entrepreneurship in the field of internet search. Today, Miodrag Vladić is the Lead Software Engineer at YottaAnswers, developing an AI question answering system for factoid types of questions, one of the largest in the world and highly competitive with big players in the field of search, such as Google and Bing. Since 2021, he is also a part of the AI startup Qaagi, building a system capable of returning causes and effects for general terms and events. Currently, Miodrag is additionally an attendee of the Master of Computational Finance program at the School of Computing in Belgrade.

Previously, Muthu was a visiting Professor at the University of Southampton and Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad. Prior to his academic career, he spent nearly eight years in industrial research with Philips Research Labs, Volantis Systems Ltd, Surrey, UK, and at DRDO, Hyderabad, India as a Senior Scientist working on real-time systems, software architecture, reuse, and testing. Currently, Muthu has created several Software Engineering Frameworks: AI Ethics and Quality, IoT SE, Cloud SE, Blockchain in Healthcare, etc. Muthu has authored and co-authored numerous books, book chapters, journal articles, and conference papers, with significant contributions to the fields of computer science, software engineering, service computing, Agile SE, and Cloud software engineering. He is a recognized senior member of IEEE and ACM, a Fellow of BCS, and a Senior Fellow of Advance HE.
